Where Salt Shows Up on the Label

Read the label and see where exactly salt shows up.

We know a couple of facts about labels on dog food:

1) Ingredients are listed in descending order.

2) We know that a manufacturer can put no more than 1% salt into the bag of kibble.

Now let’s see what comes after salt. Fruit? Veggies? Vitamins?

Because they follow salt on the label you know that those ingredients are <1% of the total bag. That may mean they wave a blueberry at the bag and call it a day. It’s probably not much benefit to the diet at all. But it sure does sound good in marketing.

Salt is added only for making the food taste better to the dog. It has no usable nutritional value for your dog.
