What if you came with your dog?
The K9 Coach Behavior Immersion Intensive is an owner-involved behavior program in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Instead of sending your dog away for two or three weeks and hoping everything transfers home later, we spend concentrated time together looking at what is actually happening — and what both ends of the leash need next.
Every immersion candidate starts with a behavior evaluation.
I need the real behavior history, including bites, attempted bites, dog fights, redirects, guarding, handling concerns and anything else that affects safety.
Do not make travel arrangements until I have evaluated the case and agreed that an immersion is appropriate.
This Is Not Traditional Board and Train
In a traditional board-and-train program, the dog lives with the trainer and the owner usually becomes much more involved near the end when the dog is transferred back home.
That model can teach dogs skills.
But complicated behavior often involves much more than what the dog does for the professional holding the leash.
I want to see:
- how you interact with your dog,
- what your leash handling looks like,
- what happens when nobody is actively giving commands,
- how quickly your dog recovers after stress,
- what creates pressure,
- how much your dog monitors you,
- and what changes when we adjust the environment or your response.
You are not waiting for a handoff lesson at the end. You are part of the work from the beginning.
Your Dog Is Learning — And So Are You
Your Dog May Work On
- Place and duration,
- leash handling and movement,
- disengagement,
- Recall,
- confidence,
- recovery,
- settling,
- impulse control,
- appropriate exposure,
- or simply learning that the dog does not need to be mentally on duty every second.
You May Work On
- reading changing body language,
- recognizing threshold before the explosion,
- leash handling,
- knowing when to create distance,
- knowing when it is appropriate to ask for more,
- management and prevention,
- your own timing,
- and understanding what your dog is communicating before the obvious behavior occurs.
One Dog Changed How I Look at Intensive Behavior Work
I once worked with a family who traveled from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach with a dog who had already been through a tremendous amount of training.
He was obedient.
Very obedient.
He knew the commands. He watched his handler closely. He responded quickly. On paper, previous training appeared to have worked beautifully.
But spending more time around him revealed something different.
He was always working.
He monitored his person constantly, anticipated the next command and seemed worried about getting something wrong.
Even when nobody asked anything of him, he remained mentally on duty.
The obedience was there.
The ability to simply exhale and be a dog was not.
A one-hour appointment could easily have shown me a beautifully trained dog.
Concentrated time together showed me an overtrained, hypervigilant dog who needed help learning how to switch off.
That is the kind of information immersion can reveal.
When Behavior Immersion May Make Sense
This is not a crash course for ordinary puppy manners or basic obedience.
The value is having enough time together to look at a more complicated picture.
Reactive Dogs
Your dog barks, lunges, fixates or loses control around dogs, people, bicycles, traffic or other triggers and normal walks have become increasingly difficult.
Aggression & Bite History
Your dog has growled, snapped, bitten or presented significant safety concerns and you need more than generic obedience advice.
These dogs require evaluation and safety planning before any immersion is approved.
Fear, Anxiety & Trauma
Your dog is frightened, shut down, hypervigilant, anxious in new environments or has difficulty recovering after something overwhelms them.
The Dog Who Has Already Been Through Training
Your dog knows the commands. You may have worked with several trainers or completed board-and-train, but the aggression, anxiety, reactivity or inability to settle is still there.

Some of the most useful information may come during an outing.
Some may appear while we sit and talk and your dog has absolutely nothing to do.
Some may happen when you simply pick up the leash.

North Myrtle Beach gives us access to different environments where we can choose appropriate exposure and see how the dog functions outside a controlled lesson.

Confidence, settling, decompression, recovery and learning to exist around stimulation without needing to participate in everything may be more useful than simply adding another command.
Video Review
Bring existing video when you have it. We can slow things down and look at what happened before, during and after an incident.
Management & Real-Life Planning
We can work through visitors, walks, household dogs, children, doors, crates, gates, routines and the everyday situations that have become difficult.
There Is Time to Talk About the Whole Dog
If we are going to spend concentrated time trying to understand your dog's behavior, I am not going to pretend the brain floats separately from the rest of the body.
We may talk about food, digestion, sleep, pain, medications, physical health, exercise, stress and other factors that can affect how well a dog copes and recovers.
This is bigger than trying to “fix behavior with food.”
Behavior may be why you came to North Myrtle Beach, but concentrated time gives us an opportunity to see more of the dog than usually fits into a rushed training appointment.

Come to North Myrtle Beach With Your Dog
The North Myrtle Beach area makes this model practical because there are many lodging options where visiting families can stay with their dogs.
You arrange your own travel and accommodations.
Before the immersion, we'll discuss your dog's needs so you can choose lodging and routines that make sense for that individual dog.
This is not a dog-friendly vacation itinerary disguised as behavior work.
A reactive or fearful dog does not need to be dragged through every pet-friendly attraction in Myrtle Beach simply because you came to town.
Sometimes the useful environment is busy.
Sometimes it is quiet.
And sometimes the best work happens while your dog learns to settle and do absolutely nothing.
Already Have a Trainer?
Your immersion does not have to replace good work already happening at home.
If you have a trainer you trust who is helping you build useful practical skills, I do not need to compete with that work or restart your dog from zero.
We can focus on the pieces that remain unresolved:
- state of mind,
- reactivity,
- confidence,
- recovery,
- household patterns,
- relationship,
- nutrition and physical wellness when relevant,
- or why good obedience is not translating into emotional stability.
When appropriate, your existing trainer and veterinarian can remain part of the larger plan.
The Real Test Still Happens at Home
The immersion is not a magic reset button.
Your dog's normal environment is still where everyday life happens.
When you leave North Myrtle Beach, I want you understanding what we changed, why we changed it and what you should be watching for next.
Follow-Up Depends on What Your Dog Needs
I do not automatically place every immersion family into the same follow-up package.
Depending on the case, the next step may include:
- implementing the plan independently at home,
- sending focused video so I can see how the work transferred,
- approved remote coaching through the Behavior Coaching Program,
- additional local or travel-based in-person work,
- or another customized combination of support.
The format is based on what I believe is safe, useful and appropriate after working with you and your dog — not on a predetermined membership or package.
Serious Aggression Requires Screening Before Travel
If your dog has bitten, attempted to bite, seriously attacked another dog, redirected onto a handler, cannot be safely handled or presents another significant risk, tell me before making any travel arrangements.
I need the actual history — not the polite version.
Some dogs may need management changes, veterinary involvement, local hands-on work or other preparation before an immersion is safe or useful.
The goal is not to manufacture dramatic encounters. The goal is to create enough time and appropriate situations to understand the dog without creating unnecessary risk.
Common Questions About Behavior Immersion
Is this a board-and-train program?
No. Your dog does not board with me while you go home. You travel with your dog and participate in the Behavior Immersion Intensive yourself.
Is this a board-and-train alternative for a reactive or aggressive dog?
It can be. Reactivity and aggression are common reasons people look for intensive behavior help, but every dog is evaluated individually before immersion is offered.
Do I need a behavior evaluation first?
Yes. I need to understand your dog's behavior, risk, history, handling needs and whether travel and immersion are appropriate before you make arrangements to come to North Myrtle Beach.
How long is an immersion?
It may be structured as a concentrated weekend or several days depending on the case. I do not force every dog into the same schedule simply because the program needs a catchy package name.
Can I travel to North Myrtle Beach for behavior help?
Yes, when I have evaluated the case and approved immersion as an appropriate option. You stay locally with your dog and participate in planned work with me.
What if my dog already has a trainer?
That's fine. When the current training is useful, we can build on it rather than automatically replacing it.
Does the immersion include nutrition?
Nutrition and wellness are part of the whole-dog conversation when relevant, but immersion is not automatically a full nutrition consultation. Deeper wellness work can be handled separately through The Well Oiled K9.
What happens after I go home?
That depends on the dog. You may continue independently, send focused video, move into approved remote coaching, or need additional in-person support. We decide that based on what we learned during the immersion.
