Recall To Place
Recall to Place
Continuing Our Recall Games Series:
You've taught your dog place. Remember the only way off place is Come! or to release them.
Now, get 2 mats. The 2nd one can be any object. A bath mat, the dog bed, another cot -- it really doesn't matter.
Put your dog on place. You go stand behind the other mat -- and call them to Come! As they get there put them on place again. If you need a leash, use it, but hopefully, you can get to the point of no leash for this game. Remember -- don't let them fail so use the leash as needed.
After a day or so of Recall to Place -- Move yourself to a neutral position. Recall the dog to you -- and expect them to sit/stay.
Alternate between Recall to Place and Recall to Sit.
Now your dog has to start thinking about the difference in commands place vs. sit/stay (or down stay) while you get in many more repetitions of recall.
Begin to incorporate this into your overall training exercises - indoors and out.
It starts to be more fun for you both.
Continue to pay your dog for recall.
